The 3rd RaRa POTA Academy will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at the Roberts Cabin in Henrietta’s Veterans Memorial Park, located at 595 Calkins Road, Rochester, NY 14623. If you would like to help with setup, meet us there at 10:30 a.m. We’ll plan to get going around 11:00 a.m. Inside, the cabin has restrooms and a full kitchen, so feel free to bring your own lunch or a dish to share with others. As usual, we will have door prizes and RaRa will provide soft drinks, some food, and all the cups, plates, napkins and silverware needed. You are more than welcome to bring a dish or refreshments to pass and share, which I’m sure others would appreciate too. The Roberts Cabin has a covered patio, so we’ll be able to operate from picnic tables with cover from the sun or rain. There are plenty of trees and space for antennas to go up too. RaRa will have club radios, antennas, and bandpass filters, but please feel free to bring your own equipment. This is a great opportunity to share and check out each other’s gear, and maybe even learn a few tips and tricks. Topics we plan to cover include: rules for activating a park, modes of operation (voice, CW, FT8); logging contacts; setting up a portable station (masts, throwline, mag mounts), finding/reading park maps, and more! Plus, this event occurs during the POTA Support Your Parks Spring Event, so anybody who activates the park with us and submits their own log will get a special award certificate from POTA. If you are not signed up for POTA yet, please go to their website at www.parksontheair.com and click “Help/Getting Started” at the top of the page. Whether you are new to Parks on the Air (POTA), an experienced activator, or regular hunter,
the RaRa POTA Academy is a great opportunity to get together with other hams to learn about
POTA, get expert tips and advice, and most importantly, get on the air! The last two years, we’ve had more than 30 people attend
