Testing is on the Third Saturday of Each Month September to April 2025 Registration is Required at Ham Study A license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is required
to operate an amateur radio transmitter. Tests are administered by qualified volunteer examiners (VEs) according to FCC approved
procedures. RaRa conducts amateur radio license testing on the 3rd Saturday of each month from September through April and at our Hamfest. These tests cover all amateur radio elements as required for the Technician, General, and Extra class licenses. License testing is provided at no cost. However, the while the exam is free, the FCC now charges $35 for applications. This fee is NOT paid to the VE (testing) team, it is paid directly to the FCC. After you have successfully completed your test, will receive an email from the FCC when your application is processed. Bring: – A pen and pencil (bring two pencils with erasers to be safe) – A 4 function calculator – A legal photo ID (drivers license or passport) Go to the FCC ULS site http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/index.htm?job=home and register to obtain an FCC Registration Number (FRN). If you are upgrading: Bring your original or a copy of your current amateur radio license; or unexpired Certificate of Completion. Testing is free (kind of)! RaRa provides free testing sessions as a public service but the FCC now charges a $35 fee. Handicapped applicants are always welcome, please notify us in advance if you need any special accommodations.

Practice Exams There are many web sites that offer free online amateur radio license testing for practice purposes.
FCC License Renewal There are 4 methods to renew your license: — Visit the RARA VE team at any testing session (except at the Hamfest). — The FCC renewal web site — US mail using form 605 available here: https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/guideshelp/fcc-form-605 — An alternate VE team such as W5YI. There is no fee if you do it yourself (options 1,2 & 3), unless you have a vanity call. You must renew within the last 90 days of your license term, after which you have a 2 year grace period to reinstate your license.
